Design Binder

Design Binder

Design Binder

(OP)
All,
I'm trying to rename the "Design Binder" name and it allows me to do this in the part. I'm renaming it "PLEASE READ". When I file, close and re-open it remanes it back to "Design Binder". What I'm trying to do is let other uses know there's information stored in there and want them to read it before working on the part.

Thanks,

Macduff spin

RE: Design Binder

I suggest leaving it and train the other users to use it.
I think the next time you upgrade, it will revert back to Design Binder again.

RE: Design Binder

I agree with Chris. Even if you manage to change it, you will still need to train the users to use the "PLEASE READ", so you may as well leave it as is and train them (with a big sharply pointed stick if necessary) to use the "Design Binder" properly.

If for whatever reason the folder reverts back to "Design Binder", then they will have the excuse that the "PLEASE READ" file wasn't there.

cheers

Agree in what you're saying, but would like to have that option anyways. It actually allows you to rename it, so it should stay renamed. Plus, if you do an ugrade that would be real scary. So if you're saying....if you do an upgrade, your all your sketch's planes etc....are going to rename back to the defaults as well?

RE: Design Binder

You could float a monster annotation in the part. It could read somethng like:

'Read the freakin design binder'

RE: Design Binder

The design binder can be renamed.....it's just like a windows folder.  A fast click then move the mouse aside...bam

I came up with a work around. I just added a "Comment" and renamed it "PLEASE READ"

Heckler,
I know it can be renamed, my friend. It just won't stay renamed when I do it.

no, they are saved with the files.

ctopher,
There was sarcasm when I wrote that. I just thought that would apply to all that was renamed

Oh, sorry.
Thanks.

By the way, how's the heat in AZ?
I was in Laughlin last weekend ... 115 deg, felt like 150!

Temps have been in the mid 80's to low 90's here in Tucson (actually Oro Valley North of Tucson). We been having a lot of rain which we could always use here in AZ.

RE: Design Binder

But Chris, it's a dry heat as they always say up here in Cow Town (Sacramento) where we had our run of several days up over 110 earlier this summer. Of course, it *was* better than the humid muck of the southern Chinese summer.

Regarding the renaming, that does seem kind of a silly oversight. As much as I like SolidWorks, that lack of attention to detail is quite vexing.

RE: Design Binder

This summer (Phoenix) has been a piece of cake.  Lots of rain, too.  It was 118 for a day, but otherwise it's cooler than normal.

Has anyone submitted this issue to their VAR or to SW to fix.  Like Beggar said, it's probably just an oversight.

I guess I need to clean out my eyes upsidedown.  Dry Heat.....heck I remember my time at Edwards AFB.....dry heat, that's right felt like 130 deg on the flightline....dry heat till your nose bleeds.  Give me 65-70 degrees year round.

RE: Design Binder

I use the design binder sometimes, but I am not able to copy text from a regular Word doc into the binder. When I do a paste I get a large square blank graphic. Am I doing something wrong? Is the design binder MS Word? or is it Word-like? I have had other issues with it, but I can't think of them right now.

RE: Design Binder

The Design Journal is a Word doc and you should be able to copy-n-paste text & graphics from any OLE compliant program.

You should also be able drag-n-drop a Word doc directly into the Design Binder itself.
