Off topic, but need help completeing small DC connect...

(OP)
I have this small DC adapter to pin connector module I salvaged from an old printer, it looks like it can be usefull for me to connect different DC 'wall wart' type adapters to breadboard circuits, as I have to build my own connect solutions alot, usually cutting the adapter connect and just plugging in the bare wire....

This tiny board isn't much, the dc plug in connector traces run into a (inductive?) coil of some sort, I imigine for leveling out spikes and whatnot?, just before that there is space for conecting a decoupling cap, which is absent (perhaps due to the coil?) The traces from the coil lead to the pin connectors leads, but just before that there is space for a diode and the neg trace splits off and runs into the boards mounting hole(GND).

In the mounting hole I wanted to conect a ground clip for attaching wrist straps, etc...should I be thinking about attaching the diode accross the gnd and vdd? if so what sort and tollerance? I typically use from 3.3V-25V depending on what I am working on, but usually just 5V and 9V mostly. The symbol for suggested type I don't recognize, it looks like the zener type but is missing one of the 'wings' in the symbol, so I dunno? The more I think about it the more I think I shoudl have that diode across before I use it to ground myself, I think the cap can be left out but is just my guess...anyone who knows what they are doing will know the right answer, but that just isn't me. Thanks in advance, jaydag71

RE: Off topic, but need help completeing small DC connect...

I would be posting this in Electrical/Electronic engineering NOT Electric motors!!  NO, DO NOT DUOBLE POST it there now!

Personally I would not be ground strapping myself to any circuitry!

No, I wouldn't 'just add a diode'.

I think you are worrying too much about this stuff.(seriously)

A bench is fairly benign you rarely even need a wrist strap.

I also confess that I'm not to clear on your diode need...

The zener symbol with only one wing is common.

Dunno and guess dont realy have a place in an electrical safety sense

Are you realy prepared to connect a device of which you aparently know very litte between yourself and a power station?

This reminds me of a little dity that I once read:-

Boy pliers
electric wires
blue flashes
Boy ashes

In my youth I even tested this but only burnt the back of my hand.

good luck and use an isolating transformer with apropriate fuses in primary and secondary windings
