flange details

(OP)
1)Is there any difference between an API 6BX  integral flange rated to 15,000 psi nominal size 7.06" and a 7.06" 15m open Flange

2) what is the required depth of the bolt hole for a studded flange as I cannot seem to find this info in the API 6A standard?

3) What is a stress joint interface kit. Is it a mouldes type of seal?

RE: flange details

If you are talking about API 6A:

1)  I don't think there is a difference but I have never heard of an open flange in API 6B.  The only ones I have heard of are weld neck flanges, integral flanges, and blind and test flanges.

2) There isn't anything in API 6A that specifies the stud length that I have found.  I typically set this dimension to 1.5 times the stud diameter based on the old rule of thumb- (at least 1 diameter of engagement to achieve the total strength of the bolt/stud)

3) I have no idea.

RE: flange details

1. By open do you mean weld neck? API specifies 6BX flanges for integral, weld neck, and blind. they are identical except for the required minimum hub length.

2. Minimum depth of full thread is equal to stud diameter.

3. You've got me on this one, I have no idea.

API Spec 6A 17th ed, Sec 4.4.4.1 b.

RE: flange details

deaconp:

The term you use, "open flange" probably refers to any form of "open face flange," this means any flange not having a tapped and studded face. Two "open face flanges" join together with bolts that pass through the bolt holes in both flanges and secure the flanges together with a nut engaged and tightened behind each flange. If a flange face has a tapped bolt circle with tap end studs installed, called a "studded face connection" or "studded flange face," it can only join to an "open face flange." If you desire more information on the subject of API 6A flange connections, go to www.woodcousa.com and click on the Web Site Tools link on the left side of the page. There you should find answers, with illustrations, to all the questions you seem to have.
