Decreasing radius bends in sheetmetal for SW2004

Decreasing radius bends in sheetmetal for SW2004

(OP)
On a flat, rectangular, sheet metal part (looking from the front), is there any way to create a decreasing radius bend from top to bottom to create a smooth half circle?  In other words, can the piece be bent to have the bottom corners a distance x apart and the top corners a distance y apart?  Can this be done without using a lofted bend?  Or is utilizing the lofted bend feature the ONLY way to accomplish this task?  Thanks very much for your eyes and input into my dilemma, much appreciated!

RE: Decreasing radius bends in sheetmetal for SW2004

Bend a flat rectangle into a smooth cone? Not that I know of. SW does not have a variable bend radius feature.

In real life you would have to either taper roll it or do incremental bends (bump) it in a Brake Press.

What you could do is create a Revolve Boss/Base to create the half cone, then use the Insert Bends function to create a flattenable sheet metal part. You will not end up with a rectangular flat though.

cheers

Thank you kindly for the advice.  I had created a close facsimile of the part utilizing the loft function.  I never thought about trying to revolve a boss/base around the sketch.  I'll give it a go.  Thanks
