Drilling a revoled Profile

Drilling a revoled Profile

Drilling a revoled Profile

(OP)
I have a profile, fully defined, and anchored at 0,0,0.  I have revolved the profile and attached a couple of extrusions.  I tried to drill the front face of the revolved profile with the hole wizard and I keep getting messages about it can not locate the position, but if I try it from the rear of the unit, on an extrusion, it goes right thru.  Why can I drill an extrusion and not a revolved profile?  It is just a revolved cylinder.  Thank you in advance to anyone with a solution to my little nightmare.

RE: Drilling a revoled Profile

I just revolved a spline into a complex shape and the hole wizard will drill me a hole anywhere on it orthogonal to the plane tangent to the surface at that point (or so it seems).

I've had my troubles with the hole wizard in the past so I suspected this wouldn't work for me either, but I'm having no problems.

Sorry.

RE: Drilling a revoled Profile

I just created a revolved part and added a hole from the wizard no problem.
Select the surface first then do Hole Wizard.

Thanks for the response.  I just got it to finally work for me, but in a very unusual way.  I placed the hole off of center then I made it coincident to the center point and that put it were it is supposed to be.  I don't understand why I have to do it this way, but at least it works.  Thanks.

RE: Drilling a revoled Profile

The Hole Wizard has always (to my knowledge) worked that way. By pre-selecting an existing point, the HW does not recognise that you are selecting a face for it to create a sketch on and work with. Therefore it does not (cannot) place a sketch point at that existing point.

cheers

Thank you for the response.  At least on extrusions, I have entered all of the data and clicked the position tab and just clicked the edge of the face I want and a point appears in the center and I just click on it and the wiz appears to plant the drill.  Works for me I guess.
