Wall insulation recommendation
Wall insulation recommendation
(OP)
You know, it is best to be careful what you wish for.
After all my years of bitching about architects, the shoe is on the other foot.
I have a client who has a metal building, currently only ventilated. He wants to air condition it, not heat it. He wants to use a spray on insulation.
My inclination is to go for R-20 or better. I have started to do research for this and haven't found one that seems to completely fill the bill:
1. Reasonable cost
2. Helps seal the building against air leaks
3. Moisture resistant, helping to provide a moisture barrier
4. Fire and smoke resistant
5. Pest resistant.
Polyurethane seems to be pretty good, except it has poor smoke spread characteristics and from what I see needs to be enclosed in gypboard or some such.
Anybody have a recommendation for a spray on insulation?

looks a bit smoky though
I looked at the knauf koolduct system some time ago. I was concerned initially as they were quoting a price with and without a UL sticker.
I actually watched them burn a sample of the foam ducting with a torch, and compared it to code compliant ductboard. Seemed less 'smokey' than duct board in my opinion. Just a casual observation nothing scientific. Was a phenolic foam, maybe look at that type of insulation.
