Is it just me, or is there a little bit of a disconnect in the new NACE/ISO document?  It specifies a HRC 22 maximum, and then specifies testing to be done with HV10 or HV5.  Then of course, it does not provide a conversion table.  I normally use A370 to convert HV10 for non-austenitic steels (with the exception of Duplex and CA6NM), but A370 does not have conversions from HV10 to HRC for austenitic material.  What sources are out there for this conversion?

As I only work with the carbon/low alloy steels, I hadn't noticed this.  For the carbon/low alloy steels, they give the requirements in Vickers or HR 15N, as well as HRC.  But, it seems they left this out of -3.  If I needed an answer, I'd send an e-mail to NACE (msd@mail.nace.org) and if that didn't get a response, I'd call them on the phone.

As this is both a NACE document and an ISO document, you could also send a query to ISO TC67, but I'd guess you'd get an answer quicker out of NACE.

Perhaps it's just you.  You are using the Technical Corrigendum 1 to Part 2?  It clearly states that HV is for welds and states the criteria for allowing the surveys to be performed in HRC.  Don't forget, there's also some materials that have criteria in HBW.

PS You can also use ASTM E140 for conversions.

I recomment you use ISO 18265 Metallic materials - Conversion of hardness values.  It is much more comprehensive on this subject than any ASTM document.

Thanks for the ideas.  I am working with welds, so the HV method it is though.  I was not aware of the corrigendum though.  I will have to check that out as well as the recommended conversion tables.

If you are using 15156-3 (as you probably are after rereading your question properly), the document is up to Corrigendum 2 now.
