Help With Symbols

Help With Symbols

Help With Symbols

(OP)
I received a CAD file prepared by a surveyor.  Existing tree are shown on the lot.  The trees are showing up on my system as a "d".  Can somepne help me to figure out how to get the trees to show up with the intended symbol.

RE: Help With Symbols

Hi corvette,

can you highlight a tree? Which kind of Acad-object is this "d"? Block, xref, shape, image....? Which system is the  surveyor running? Did you get a dxf?

I can highlight the "d". Listed as text when I inquire as to properties.  I received as a .dwg.  I am running CAD 2005, don't know the version that the surveyor is using.

RE: Help With Symbols

RE: Help With Symbols

You can get various symbols for text depending on the font file used.  For example look at the "Wingdings" font.  When you check the tree's (d's) properties what is the font name, maybe the surveyor used a special font file which AutoCAD had to substitute something else for.

RE: Help With Symbols

When someone sends you a drawing file your best bet is to have them use the e-transmit option. This way any fonts, x-refs, and plot styles are attached along with the drawing.

RE: Help With Symbols

Coming from a surveyor that is his symbol for tree.

There's nothing you can do unless you have his database
file that translates code into symbols. This is a big
problem in Civil Engineering and transferring data between
surveyors and Engineering firms.

Chances are he has Carlson Surveying Program, most survey
companies use Carlson.

Just get a tree symbol from your symbol manager if your
using Land Desktop otherwise make your own tree symbol
and replace the 'd' with a tree.
