This question is regarding rebar calculation based on bending  of pad due to soil pressure from below.

pad(square)  dimension=L , shaft(square in x-s) dimension=p
soil pressure= w kn/sq. m.

I normally design pad reinforcement based on bending of free end of pad from the face of column i.e.

Bending= w*L*1/2*(L-p)²

My question is :

If my SHAFT IS CIRCULAR(dia.=p) instead of square, then what will be the free length of pad from face of column for bending?

Will it still be 1/2*(L-p) or some different calculation?

Thanks
