Raised Heel Wood Truss

Raised Heel Wood Truss

Raised Heel Wood Truss

(OP)
I have a raised heel wood scissor truss that has a 2'-0" high heel. I am having concerns and problems transferring my roof diaphragm force into my double top plate. Typically I have used the Simpson RBCP clips to transfer my force from the roof diaphragm to the double top plate but I don't believe that will work here. Any suggestions out there that might help me in this situation? Is it possible to infill between the trusses with a wood stud wall and transfer my diaphragm shear into that infill wall? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Val

RE: Raised Heel Wood Truss

You can infill the wall as you suggested, being sure to transfer the shear from your roof diaphragm down to your top plate - or you can also ask the truss company to provide shear truss blocking for the heel areas, in which you specify the loading of the blocks.

Thank you skier1578. That really does help. I think I will put a note on the drawings that the truss supplier to provide shear truss blocking to transfer x amount of lb/ft.

RE: Raised Heel Wood Truss

With the heel height 2 feet (assuming trusses 24" OC),  you could install solid blocking top and bottom and extend the sheathing to transfer the shear.

boo1,

How would the blocking be oriented? I am just curious as to how the diaphragm attaches to the wood blocking at the top. The reason i ask is b/c my roof has a 12:12 pitch.

Thanks,
Val

RE: Raised Heel Wood Truss

They can bevel the blocking at the top.
