Looking For a CMMS

Looking For a CMMS

Looking For a CMMS

(OP)
Hi,
My company is a small electric utility with generation, transmission and distribution. No deregulation here :)

I have been tasked to look at implementing a CMMS.

Anybody have any suggestions, vendors, pitfalls, etc.

Thanks for Responses in Advance

RE: Looking For a CMMS

I sugest to start reading Plant Services or visit www.plantservices.com they have an excellent list of software vendors and articles.

There were also excellent articles on www.maintenance-tv.com or maintenance-tv.com, but I cannot contact the site.

Before you jump start buying, do you already have an equipment register? A list of all your equipment organized in a database or card system.

I have a PDF file named equipment+register.pdf which describes the basics and structure of an equipment register.
If you need it, send me an e-mail.

Buying the CMMS is the last stage, and making an inventory of your plant is the first stage.

RE: Looking For a CMMS

I have worked within several CMMS enviroments. As the other guyz have said you may want to persue several magzines for  info. OR Consider a couple of the smaller (but not limited) versions such as Penguin computer consultants package OR one less costly system that i am currently working with is Faciliworks; it is ACCESS based and you have the option of obtainig the source code to do with as you wish

RE: Looking For a CMMS

The most important part of choosing a CMMS package is knowing what you want the system to do and what information you want to put in and get out of the system.

When choosing a CCMS package make sure you specify what you want the package to do.

Only 15-30% of all the features in a CMMS package are ever used by the buyer.

Do not overbuy a system that is beyond the manday efforts need to operate the system or even set the system up.

I agree that many systems fail in the first year.   The primary reason is that the user does not have the proper manday effort budgeted to really use the system properly.

CMMS packages require work and it is very important to choose the proper system that will do what you need it to do.

If you are still looking for a CCMS package, run over to our website at 2MAINTAIN.COM and take a look at our packages.

RE: Looking For a CMMS

My company uses MAXIMO, a very good program, but also expensive.  My company has facilities all over the world so for that purpose MAXIMO is good.  For small companies, I don't know if they have a Lite version, but they are expensive.  Their help desk is terrible but I still like the product very much

RE: Looking For a CMMS

I have also been looking for a CMMS system.  I work for an electric utility with generation, transmission, and distribution.  We have 37 substations.  At this point I think that the right fit for my company is the Cascade software made by Digital Inspections, http://www.diginsp.com/products.htm

RE: Looking For a CMMS

Hi wbd,

Did you implement a CMMS system? What's your experience? Would you share with your experience in the operation and maintenance of a small electric utility generation plant?

RE: Looking For a CMMS

Hello,
I am also in the market for a CMMS program. Does barcodeing my equimpment make sense for asset management, tracking and PM and repair tracking?

RE: Looking For a CMMS

Yes, for data input, quickly sorting out the correct equipment would speed-up things, but imagine equipment that is somewhere out in the rain, running arround with a reader in an industrial environment could cause problems. Some areas only can be entered with intrinsincally safe equipment.

RE: Looking For a CMMS

Our company is using Quickmaint from equipsoft, its very easy to use and fairly cheap, I would check it out, they have a free trial.
