Tubing with variable profiles

Tubing with variable profiles

Tubing with variable profiles

(OP)
Hi. i'm new to solidworks and was wondering how i would create a tube with variable profiles.  like for instance, from 2"diameter to a 4" with a smooth transition.

using structural members has been neat but limited to one profile.  any help would be great. thanks.

RE: Tubing with variable profiles

I believe a loft would be your only option for that.  You could use the weldment profiles/structural members to get all your sections with constant profile and then convert entities on both faces of the transition portion to get two sketches and loft between them.

RE: Tubing with variable profiles

Use the Loft command.

thanks for the quick response.  i never tried the loft command yet.  i'll go through it on the tutorial.  thanks

RE: Tubing with variable profiles

dubbed,
You can use the loft command or the sweep command.  The sweep has 1 profile with as many guide curves as you need.  The loft will essentially give you more control than a sweep.

RE: Tubing with variable profiles

If the tube is straight, it would be simpler to use the Revolved Boss/Base feature. This would be preferable to a Loft or Sweep as it would probably create a smaller file. It would also present less chance of unexpected blend anomalies.

cheers
