1mm coatings for aluminum
1mm coatings for aluminum
(OP)
I work at a machine shop that has got into fixing sawguides for certain customers, The guide consists of 1-1/2" aluminum, it is roughly 12" x 6". When a saw hits the guide it gauges the aluminum, which we either weld , or if its minimal we fill with devcon aluminum putty. We have been requested to apply a surface coating approxiamately 1mm thick to the guide after fixing to build up its thickness which is extremely critical. Does anyone know of a procedure or coating that can be applied to aluminum and in certain spots devcon that will build up the surface consistantly, and is rugged enough not to flake?
thanks.
welding would apply to much heat to one side and warp the guide, its also time consuming and expensive

Why not mechanically attach (screws) a sacrifical plate (19ga) to the top of the guide. Replace as needed.
