Just received SW 2007

Just received SW 2007

Just received SW 2007

I just received 2007, I am currently running 2006 with PDMWorks. Should I install 2007 with PDMWorks as a new installation and then later uninstall 2006?

Do I need to do any special file or PDMWorks conversions for 2006 to 2007 files, or can I just open 2006 files as I need them and when I save they will be converted to 2007?

Is there a 2007 upgrade/install guide for non IT people like me??

sorry for the multiple questions.
thanks, tom...

RE: Just received SW 2007

1) SW2007 and SW2006 can cohabitate on the same machine, as long as you're careful to keep everything from different releases in different directories.  I do it all the time, and it works fine.  Just be aware, though, that any files you save in SW2007 can't be loaded into SW2006.

2) You can open SW2006 files in SW2007, and they will be converted when you save them.  That's my preference, but other people may choose to do a bulk conversion.

3) All the upgrade/install guides are in the "Support" section of the SolidWorks website.

RE: Just received SW 2007

There was a thread on here, but I can't find it right now, that says you should upgrade PDMWorks 2006 to 4.2 before moving to SW07.  Maybe this will refresh someone else's memory and can give a little insight on this.

Both my client version and vault version are 2006 SP4.0 Build 0066
If I install 2007 along side my 2006 do I need to upgrade PDM 2006 to 4.2 as you suggest?

RE: Just received SW 2007

Yes you do need to upgrade to sp4.2 before going to 2007 sp0.0 this is the message from the solidworks support area of there web sight.

RE: Just received SW 2007

You will probably want to make a copy of your 2006 toolbox, and select that as the toolbox for 2007 during the install.  That way 2007 can upgrade the files in the new location, leaving the ones in the original location for use by 2006.

My PDMWorks reports SP4.0 but SW is 4.1, how do I upgrade just PDMWorks to 4.2?

RE: Just received SW 2007

Backup everything before making major upgrades!!!! I cannot stress that enough.

I have SW07 installed, but have yet to install PDMworks. I will just upgrade my PDMworks 06 SP4.2 to PDMworks 07 without making a new install of my PDMworks. As for SW07 you should ALWAYS do a new install of that. NEVER do an upgrade to SW.

to upgrade to 4.2 - download hte SP and install - you should only need to upgrade the server, because the next time your clinets attach it will require them to upgrade the client to the latest SP and it will do that from the server.

Be sure to stop the service before installing - see the upgrade guide at SW website. http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/ServicePacks.html?PID=252

RE: Just received SW 2007

Where do you get the update to PDMWorks Server 4.2?  I've been looking around at the SolidWorks site and can't find it... ugh!

RE: Just received SW 2007

You can't get an old SP you have to get the latest SP. If you upgrade to SW07 you should upgrade your PDMWorks too. SW06 can see the new PDM, but SW07 can't see the old PDM.

RE: Just received SW 2007

Well, I called my VAR and they said you don't have to update the server to 4.2 if you're running 4.0.  It was only an issue with 4.1... so no issue here...

rporter is wrong in his suggestion that you have to update to 4.2 apparently.

RE: Just received SW 2007

It was issued in a technical alert dated July 24, 2006.
