Scan to 3D-powerful but still missing functionality

Scan to 3D-powerful but still missing functionality

(OP)
I have been manipulating mesh data (STL, VRML) in SW2007 using the new scan to 3D add in for a few days Anyone have any experience with this yet?
Here are some of my observations so far:
1) I can snap to the mesh very easily in a 3D sketch.
2) Although you can snap to the mesh you cannot make a coincident or any relation.  This is OK, but you have to be careful.
3) If I start a 2D sketch on a plane intersecting the mesh it is difficult and awkward to snap sketch entities to the mesh. It is possible however. Obtaining cross section profiles from a mesh is difficult, anyone know of a workaround to this?  I was hoping intersection curve would work with the mesh but this is not the case.
4) mesh prep wizard is pretty slick, you can easily decrease the mesh size and smooth out the noise.  The fill hole commands also seems to work well, except on large holes with irregular boundaries(to be expected).

So far this add-in has been helpful and relatively bug free (just a few display issues) but being able to easily obtain 2D cross sectional profiles would be a huge benifit for this add-in.

RE: Scan to 3D-powerful but still missing functionality

I was so excited until I actually got my hands on it. I am very glad that SW has added the ability to work with points and polys, and added the ability to surface polys, but the interface is like a toy, its hard to control parameters in the algorithms (stupid sliders), and I can crash it no problem with larger poly counts.......but, with that said, they make claims about it being a fully functional RE solution. It is good and I give them props for moving in this direction.

I think I'm spoiled because I have used Rapid Form (Check out new XOR, fully functional parametric modeling http://www.rapidformxor.com/cgi-bin/index.php?Model=Contents&Action=FrontList&category_id=14 ) , Raindrop Geomagic, and CopyCad.

This is a step in the right direction, but it will be a few years before it becomes really useful.

I meant SW makes NO CLAIMS about it being a fully functiona RE solution above.
