Anodization of Copper

Anodization of Copper

Anodization of Copper

(OP)
Hello,

I am trying to set up a copper anodization kit. I was wondering if anyone had information about copper anodization that would be helpful?

Thank you in advance.

RE: Anodization of Copper

The CuO is conductive, brown, softer -- Anodizing is useful
for Al where the Al2O3 is hard, protective layer.

Most likely the Cu would dissolve in a conductive bath
anyway.

Thank you for your response,

I actually want to anodise the copper to produce a semi-conductive layer on the surface. Can anyone help or offer any advice on this please? any help would be greatly apreaciated.

RE: Anodization of Copper

Polish, etch away dirt and CuO, heat it close to redhot
in protective gas ( Ag,N2, or CO2 ) with small amount of O2.

When surface is black, cool and soak it in dilute H4N
solution until it turns red.

In highschool ( in the 50s ) I made CuO rectifier--
it worked, if I remember with 2V about 10 mA/cm2
