Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

(OP)
Of course it's possible to make a golf driver, I know it is. I just don't know how!!
I have been able to get my hands on other kinds of golf clubs (wedges, etc) but I find that making those is not as demanding as a driver.
Anyone out there takled something like it? Have any models to show? any ideas on how to go about it?

This driver was made by Paul Salvador in Solidworks. How did he do it?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

RE: Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

Insert the orthogonal views of the club head into a set of sketch pictures, and use the profile as a guide in creating surfaces. Then knit the surfaces together.

There are better examples out there but this is the best I could come up with.

Also, why not just ask Paul if you could have a copy of the model so you can review the method he used.

Hey CorBlimeyLimey,

I don't see what you are pointing to, your previous post? Yeah, ye'ole ortho projections sounds like the way to go right, somewhoe I think Paul here used something quite different though. I've asked Paul for some help but I figured I'd aska around and see if anyone else would come up with something.

Thanks for your help!

Have you ever used surfaces in SW?  Honestly I never have, but I've never needed to.  If you haven't, you ought to do the SW online tutorial on surfaces (it looks like some kind of hand-held spray nozzle).

Paul Salvadore already has a golf club you can download and reverse-engineer, so I'm unsure if you want the practice and challenge, or do you want him to give you that particular model?

Here is what I have so far. I did it with the ortho views and lots of surfaces. I guess the problems I'm trying to address have to do with continuity, adequate surface curvature and degenerate points.

This was made the following way.

1. 2 surface lofts for top and bottom using 3 curves; left middle and right.

2. knit into solid

3. loft cut for face.

4. sweep cut for shaft head connection

5. loft with curvature continuity for shaft head connection

6. roundovers

Any suggestions on how to address some of this problems??

Thanks for even looking at this!

RE: Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

I would try using surface lofts and sweeps that all extend through each other. Then use trim surface. Knit the surfaces together and try fillets to create continuity between the surfaces. This helps more often than not to not get those funny kinks in your surfaces where tangency and continuity are trying to be maintianed.

Ok...but how do I mantain an accurate meeting point while creating a surface that extends further, do I just have to eye ball it?

RE: Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

Your meeting points can be created between sketches with coincident and pierce relations.

RE: Making a Golf Driver in solidworks, is it possible?

In addition to the last post, you would create a spline or curve past the point using tangency relations.

Composite curves can be very useful too.

There is also the extend surface command which can help.

Good Luck.
