squared ft or ft squared
squared ft or ft squared
(OP)
These expressions are both used to denote the area of a square whose sides have a length of 1 ft. But when we speak of a 100 squared foot square we mean one whose sides are 10 ft long. When we say a 100 foot square square, we mean a square with 100 ft on each side. Can you bring clarity to this imbroglio ?

"Square feet" and "feet squared" are units of area. There is no implication that the area must acutally be a square.
