BoM layout trouble!

BoM layout trouble!

BoM layout trouble!

(OP)
Hi,

I would like to do the following.

1. Remove the BoM table title - 1234 bill of materials
2. Change the headings - Quantity to QTY etc..
3. When I create a BoM for an assembly/product, it creates seperate BoM tables for each sub assembly/product. I just want each sub-assy to be called up as a single items.

Help!

Thanks - Kevin

RE: BoM layout trouble!

Kevin...  The Bill of Material program in V5 has some good formatting capabilities that unfortunatatley cannot be saved to reuse later. That's why many users/companies have written their own BOM program.

But if you want to try it for yourself, your items #1 and #2 can be accomplished easiest by just editing the table after it's inserted on the drawing. I'm not sure, but I think you can accomplish #3 by getting into the DEFINE FORMAT panel and hidding all the properties in the upper section and just use the lower section ("recapitulation" - whatever that means?) for a single list.

I found the following post in my notes (but I don't know who the author is to give them credit):

Comments regarding Bill of Material:

BOM Settings can not be saved.  They are active only for the current session (See the CATIA documentation on this)  As you have found out that if you generate a BOM on a 2D drawing, the next time the Solids are modified and then the 2D is updated your BOM reverts back to the default format as defined from Dassault.

Other than never logging off from CATIA and never sharing your drawings with someone else you could try one of the following.

When defining your BOM, (using the customize function) save the steps using the "Record Macro" option.  YOu can then replay this macro each time you start CATIA up for the day.

Better yet, if you have the resources then use Knowledgeware to produce your own BOM structure.

The CATIA BOM (Along with assembly features) is one of the most unfriendly tools in CATIA.  If you attend one of the conferences that the Dassault developers are at make your wishes known that this must be improved on.  (In North America the spring COE conference is in March 2006)

Sorry for the rant at the end.

Thanks Jackk! I will look into finding a BOM program.

If anybody can point me to a decent script that would be good?
