how to create this fender in sheetmetal
how to create this fender in sheetmetal
(OP)
attached is a file that I having real trouble with.
I'm trying to model a fender from the side panel (blue colored) but I'm not successful in creating it as the unfolded view is not right.
Ideally I would like the fender to connect to another flange coming from the bottom edge of the yellow colored face. I tried creating a tab at the bottom lip of the part but to no avail. can someone shed some light. I've successfully done it Inventor but don't know how to best approache it in SWX.

"RH Hood bend" should be part of the edge flange above it. Tabs are not suppose to work the way you have it. You can tell because if you unsuppress the Flat pattern it fails. You have to learn how to use these tools better. I am not trying to be mean here, but it does irritate me to some degree to see people chop at these files and then can't understand why it doesn't work.
You should not have to always make 3 features to get to one feature. Sketching helps give you the ability to fix that. Try editing the Edge flange more often and make it into what you want it to be instead of adding tabs to the same flange.

RE: how to create this fender in sheetmetal
As I mentioned in my first post I did it in Inventor with no issue at all. In INV I used the face tool which is similar to the tab tool in SWX.
I've attached a video of how it was done in Inventor. this is what I'm trying to do in SWX. you can see at the end that the unfold was seccussful.

The "Edge-Flange5" feature would have to have mitred edges (where the sections meet) to be able to form them from one piece.

Here's a couple of alternatives.

One of them is not correctly sized, just an approximation to show an alternative method. Not necessarily better than your original ... just different.

Here is another fab option.
http://w
Also included is a picture of a question I have. CBL’s “fender-cbl2” part shows the fender attached to the running board. He used 2 flanges but the fender doesn’t match the body cut.
So the question is: How can SW use converted edges to define the flanges (the fender)?
I could see making a sketch with equations and linking flange features but… whew. One thing IV can do is a “contour flange”. Which uses a side view sketch like a thin feature to define the sheet metal. Then you pick an edge of existing SM to attach the contour flange and all the bends are auto added. It really is a simple and intuitive.
M1… you should look into using “rip” for your jeep. Rip is an abstract approach, but very powerful.
RE: how to create this fender in sheetmetal
Another method is to create a miter-flange from the attached portion of the fender & constrain the sketch elements to the profile, or use the Convert Entities tool on the profile edges.

Is that for an actual job or just for fun?
