RE: Pressure Vessel for Liquid Ammonia

The web site below is a good one for starters on handling ammonia. Your vessel will be a pressure vessel and as such needs to be designed to a recognized code of construction (like ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code). Read up on this topic, it is very important to understand the hazards of dealing with ammonia.

RE: Pressure Vessel for Liquid Ammonia

I'm going on memory at this point, but all of the liquid ammonia preesure vessels w/o refrigeration) that I have designed per ASME VIII had an MAWP of 250 psig at a design temp of 150F.  I believe that most, if not all, were also PWHTd.

RE: Pressure Vessel for Liquid Ammonia

I did a tank vent project some years back for liquid ammonia storage tanks at an ammonia plant, and I seem to remember them being the aluminum "Protectoseal" standard product.
