Compressed Air sysytems

Compressed Air sysytems

Compressed Air sysytems

(OP)
Hi
I just have installed a compressed air system and the compressors are Oil Flooded compressors and I have added some filteration in the system.i have an inline Coalsceing filter and a Particulate filter. Is there any preference of putting in any one before the other.

RE: Compressed Air sysytems

Hi,
The coalsceing filter is first it's a little more robust than the Particulate. Are you running your air through a drier ? If so than some of your filtration is being performed there also. becarful with filtration also because they can be a huge energy hog if the preasure differential become to high. PMCS is required

Thanks for the information.Yeah, there is a cold coalscer and another filter installed in the dryer unit,I have talked to some of the experts too about this flow and I am getting mixed responses for that.I have the compressors and then a wet reciver and then it goes to the dryer and goes into dry tank and then goes to the Particulate filter and then goes into another coalscer and then it goes to a mist eliminator and then goes to the main line where air is fed.I had a carbon canister in middle of the particulate but I had to ake it out.

RE: Compressed Air sysytems

Good morning,
PMCS is a military term for Preventitve Maintenance Checks and Services.

Hi again,
Thanks for the abbreviation.I have one more question I have put a oil water seprator to take out drains from the compressors, dryer, wet tank and reciever. The separator is not pressurized and my understanding is that all the drains will find a path of least resistance and will drain out to the separator. But I am not sure if the condensate can be back pressured to the equipment.I was told to put check valves to make sure that the condensate doesnot come back but manufacturer is telling me not to put it over there as they can fail.So do you have a better idea to make sure the condensate doesnot go back.

RE: Compressed Air sysytems

Good morning,
Just reviewing our measage and it sounds like you have a maintenance nightmare. what type of air requirements do you have, I'm asking about the quality of the air. Are you suppling delicate machines our basic air tools. I like to keep things simple as I have been tought. Your system if it's required to be this way sounds to me to be a lot of work maybe just on the edge of over kill. What brand of compressor are we talking about and who manufactured the drier. We use zero loss drain which require the preasure of the compressed air to service you correctly. as far as check valves i wouldn't install them either, just one more thing to fix later. Maybe look at your piping configuration. Can you add a drip leg or a trap to prevent moisture from traveling back to the equipment. It's ironic to be talking about this becasue we are upgrading our conpressed air system in Nov. to two 200hp working hand in hand and only one refrigerated drier servicing both machines.

I am using two gardener denver 125 Hp@100Psi and a Hankinson dryer.Actually what happened was that there was a oilseprator failure inside the compressor and the Dryer got shutdown because of some other reason and at that time we didnot have wet reciever and all the water plus oil condensate went inside the line and damaged our 300,000 dollars worth of machinery. So I know this sysytem is a overkill but we wanted make it safe and this system ensures us that if there is a catastrophic failure in the compressor we can take the oil and water out.I have tied in the compressor and the dryer so that whenever dryer malfunction it shuts down the compressors. If you are installing two 200 hp compressors the dryer should be rated to 1600 Hp or more rouhly if you are planning to run bothe compressors at the same time. Are these oil free compressors you are going to install?
