toolbox upgrade

toolbox upgrade

toolbox upgrade

(OP)
We have upgraded form SW2005 to Sw2006 along with the appropriate PDM and toolbox upgrades. Existing hardware references path correctly to the toolbox, but there are no configurations available but "default".
Makes for very large screws sticking out all over.

RE: toolbox upgrade

You won't have any configs unless you made some with the components. Find a file that you have used in SW05 and see if there are any other configs... if you did hte upgrade didy ou point your SW06 to upgrade the SW05 TB? if not then you have TB DB's. You need to determine if you are looking at the right one also - see your toolbox.ini file under the Toolbox folder of your SW install directory.

RE: toolbox upgrade

This is the first I've heard of a Toolbox upgrade hosing existing configs.  Now I've read through the other threads and I'm trying to get my head around those fully.  However the long and the short of it if I understand Toolbox upgrades correctly is this:

1. The Toolbox database file is updated to the current version.

2. Any files new to the previous release are copied/added into the Toolbox directory.

Is this essentially correct? Am I missing anything?

As I already said, I have seen/heard about situations where after upgrading a user will open an assembly containing Toolbox hardware and their configurations no longer exist.  In these case I have suggested restoring the back-up part files to the Toolbox directory.  Does anyone have any experience with situations such as this?  Is this a good course of action?

I'm very interested in hearing more on the subject of Toolbox.  It seems like a very good and a very simple idea in theory.  But it's sort of like a porcupine quill in that it starts out going in easy but no so easy to pull back from if you run into trouble and need to correct odd situations.

RE: toolbox upgrade

The upgrade does not wipe out the old version of the files it just puts in what is not there between the current version and hte old version. Have NEVER heard of a case like this happening... would be pointless in having the TB... but none-the-less you should always backup all copies of all files before doing upgrades... you never know what might happen
