First, I am using PDMWorks 2005 (upgrading to 2007 soon) and my API skills are extremely limited.  Is there a way, either with API or some other method, to open PDMWorks Search and PDMWorks Preview windows with the push of a key?

RE: Quick load of PDMWorks Search/Preview

Why can you not just click on the search within SW PDMworks when you log in? That just seems easy to me.

The less I have to move the mouse to perform actions with just a keystroke, the faster I am.  I'm looking for a way to open both functions with one keystroke to save the time right-clicking and clicking twice for both of those functions.

RE: Quick load of PDMWorks Search/Preview

There is one button to get your search routine up... that doesn't seem to hard for me.

Otherwise write your own application using the API. that seems like more work the pushing a button to me.

umm, ok, well I already tried recording the activity with the macro recorder, but nothing is recorded.  Any suggestions on how to get the API to call these functions?

General comment:  If a macro is used for years, it saves a considerable amount of time over that time.  I try to eliminate thangs that slow me down (like moving the mouse around unnecessarily away from the graphic view to click on icons and such).  For me, the best combination is a balance between single keystrokes and mouse movement.  Common commands get reduced down to a single keystroke so I can keep the mouse over the graphic field.  If the long way of doing the function begins to annoy me or make me feel like I can do faster with it, then I begin to look for ways to streamline it.  It's a habit I developed from my old AutoCAD days and LISP/MNU routines.   Anwways, I can usually do this on my own, but in this case, I need some input on were to start.

Well if you have advanced server then you can get the SPI callouts for PDMworks... not sure but I think if you buy enterprise for SW07 you get the API callouts for PDMworks.

I think you have to purchase the Advanced Server to get API calls.

RE: Quick load of PDMWorks Search/Preview

Historically my experience with the macro recorder is that it is notorious for its selectivity in the actions it ACTUALLY RECORDS.  I'm not surprised that you didn't end up with a result you expected.

You're going to have to do what Scott suggests and go through the PDMWorks API documentation to find the appropriate calls and author a macro from scratch in VBA.  I'm not a 100% sure on this but it is my understanding that starting with version 2006 you don't need the Advanced Server to use the PDMWorks API.  It should be included in the PDMWorks clients.  At least that appears to be the way it work with SolidWorks 2006 Office Premium.
