Has anyone found a documented conversion for estimate wall loss when provided with a section of Iron Oxide taken from carbon steel?

I have heard estimates ranging from 5:1 to 8:1, but have not found anything documented.

I likewise believe I have seen differences in various references with regard to a sort of expansion characteristic over the years.  While certainly not saying it is necessarily appropriate for the purpose it appears you may intend I think one paper, "The Durability of Portland Cement in Underground Pipelines", by Mr. Philip H. Perkins of the Cement and Concrete Association from England (I think presented at Philadelphia ASCE ~1978) talking in the context of corrosion of conventional steel reinforcement in concrete said steel will expand from 3-8 times its original volume when oxidized.
