Thin structure (Shell157) contact on substrate(solid69)
Thin structure (Shell157) contact on substrate(solid69)
(OP)
I'm modeling a combination of parts where a (very) thin layer is in contact with a substrate (thermal+electric)that use conta173 and targe170 pairs.
The substrate is made of solid69 elements and I first modeled the layer on top meshed with solid69 as well. if it becomes too thin, meshing is not possible (ansys crashes or refuses to mesh it, I can't use a mapped brick mesh or similar) and I switched to shell157.
The shell157 itself meshes OK and gives plausible results for current, but the temperature goes berserk (>10E10K). the problem is the contact doesn't work with it.
I tried flipping normals and stuff, but still no luck.
Has anyone a tip for me?
Michael

I can't see why anything should be wrong.
But you need to look at the contact, is it issued in the correct way. Best thing is to make a new contact region.

I used conta173 for solid/solid interface and it worked fine for the first case. Then i changed it to a shell on top of my first solid, but overlooked that you have to use CONTA175
for the shell-Solid contact. As soon as I changed it it worked flawlessly.
