Another PDM question

Another PDM question

Another PDM question

(OP)
In an earlier thread Bradley (Mechanical) gave me an example of their revision scheme.
A01-01 thru A99-99 for non controlled documents
P01-01 thru P99-99 for controlled Prototype documents
R01-01 thru R99-99 for controlled Released documents.

This is exactly what I want also..

My question, How do I set up different Revision schemes applied to specific lifecycles in Vault Admin? When I adjust the revision scheme it seems to apply it to all of my lifecycle status'. It would seem to me that the revision sheme data should be tied to a specific status, (not global), this way when I change the status of a document the revision scheme changes automatically. Is there a control for this? Or am I missing the boat???

RE: Another PDM question

Howdy,
Pay attention to the list of Statuses on the left side of the Lifecycle tab. For each of the listed statuses, you can define the associations with your primary, secondary, etc. revision schemes. Select one status at a time and define your settings.

RE: Another PDM question

(OP)
I set up status 1 revision scheme, then I set up status 2 revision scheme. But when I go back to status 1 the revision scheme still shows the settings from status 2, leading me to believe they are not saved per status. Could it be that they are indeed saved, but just not shown? Shouldn't the revision scheme tab always show you the scheme based on the lifecycle status that is currently selected?

RE: Another PDM question

Tom,
You can only have one revision scheme with settings for primary, secondary and tertiary revisions. It's these settings that can be associated with various lifecycle statuses. You will see these on the lifecycle tab on the right "When a user chooses....".

Fisrt of all thank you for your help with this...

In my first thread in this post I copied info I received a couple of weeks ago. Please look it over, is this possible?
How can I change from rev A to P to R via status changes?
Or is the revision changes shown applied in some other way?

RE: Another PDM question

Tom,
Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to be able to accomplish what you're asking. PDMWorks allows you to create a three part revision level scheme, not multiple revision level schemes. Here's a quick compromise. You could set up the revision scheme to look like this.

Primary = 1, 2, etc
Secondary = 1.1, 1. 2 etc.
Tertiary = 1.1.1, 1.1.2 etc

If the part/drawing is at a primary revision level = released, if at secondary = prototype, if at tertiary = non-controlled.

RE: Another PDM question

Would it work to set up the primary as: A, P, R
The secondary as: 01-99
The tertiary as: 01-99

Increasing the primary revision would cycle between lifecycle stages.  The secondary and tertiary revisions could then be used for within the life cycle.  I might suggest using the secondary revision level for check ins at defined (release) points, and the tertiary revisions could be used for intermediate (work in progress) check ins.  This way a user would know R03 was a check in of a for production release, where R03-07 would be a check in of an intermediate state between R03 and R04.

RE: Another PDM question

(OP)
This is what I did,

I created custom listings for all three revision levels
Primary R00 thru R99 (R= Released)
Secondary P00 thru P99 (P= Prototype / in Design)
Tertiary NC01 thru NC99 (NC= Not Controlled)

then on the life cycle page I set "When a document is checked in allow its revision to change"
Not Controlled = Tertiary & Working copy
Prototype & In Design = Secondary & Working Copy
Released = Primary & working Copy
Obsolete = none selected

So far in my testing this seems to work good.

Thanks everyone for your help
