Diagonal tension stress from through bolt anchorage

Diagonal tension stress from through bolt anchorage

Diagonal tension stress from through bolt anchorage

(OP)
I have a slab tied into a circular column sitting about 12 feet in the air.  I am anchoring a blast-resistant structure to the slab. I am using pre-cast sleeves and post-installed through bolts with a nut and washer on the other end. If the tensile force exherted on the anchor is known how do you calculate the diagonal tension stress developed in the surrounding concrete? ACI 349-05 is not applicable for through bolts.  I am assuming a truncated pyramidal stress projection per ACI but i'm not sure how to calculate the diagonal tension stresses in the concrete and determine the strength of the concrete.  Anyone have any helpful ideas?

RE: Diagonal tension stress from through bolt anchorage

Sammy3,
I think you might be able to work it backwards using, say, the methods given in the Nelson Stud literature.  Given the strength of the concrete, you can calculate the ultimate or allowable pullout force on the bolt or group of bolts.

You would get more action if this post were in the structural forum.
