Thanks Scott.

RE: CSWP Exam

How long is the certification good for?  I mean with all the updates, you would think that this type of certification would be meaningless after a while.  Well, maybe not meaningless, but if I was certified for SW2000+, then I doubt anyone would care when they saw it on my resume.  Can you update your certification, or do you have to retake the test every so often?

RE: CSWP Exam

The CSWP test largely concentrates on core skills (e.g. how to set up a model for symmetry, interpreting and applying design intent, etc.) which are quite relevant no matter what the current release might be.  People taking the test must also complete a modeling challenge (choose one from: sheet metal, free-form shapes, and top-down assembly modeling) as well as a written test (which is pretty common sense in my opinion though there are some tricky questions).

From where I stand, I believe the skills required to pass the test only become less relevant if you stop using the software.  Don't get me wrong, it's important to be up to date on what's happening with SolidWorks in the here and now as well but that is not the focus of the CSWP.

I highly recommend the preparation course offered online by i.get.it as it covers the EXACT scenarios that are presented in the test.  Their Skills Gap Assessment test is also a very good prep for the written part of the CSWP.

RE: CSWP Exam

alanled,

I just took the test about 6 weeks ago, and I solely used igetit.com.  It has an excellent online video that takes you through the entire test, and you can download parts/assemblies that are very similar to the ones you see on the test.

I agree with RawheadRex about the sills assessment.  Their preparation is very good, and I actually found the multiple choice section to be the most difficult on the test.

As for the advanced section, you can choose 1 of 3 sections.  I would recommend the sheet metal portion if you have any doubts about passing.  For more fun and challenge, I'd take the free form section.  I haven't worked with top-down modeling, so I can't comment on there.

I hope that helps,
-John
