Hi all,

Since in my centrifugal pump there is a necessity to vary the profile of the volute area in the dischare.suppose if u take the cross section aera near the vane tip it changes from .264 inch to .338inch this is the variation.so i have added baffle to aviod water re-circulation.wht design aspect need 2 be consider further.

PLS ADVISE ME.

labirynth rings serve as seal between impeller and the casing, reducing the loss of fluid.
 
are you designing a new pump? or you are an user trying to modify the existing one? in any case, this is a very complex and interesting issue, so be more specific!

Recommend you get your hands on the book, "Centrifugal Pumps Designs & Applications" by Lobanoff.

There is a pretty simple and straight forward derivation on volute design.

I agree with Bjegovic that this is a deep subject.

Thanks for ur comments guys seeing the criticality the customer asked to work on the outer profile of the casing without touching the volute area.
