Variable Speed Drive with Sucker Rod Pumps

Variable Speed Drive with Sucker Rod Pumps

(OP)
Hello All

Just wanted to post a question out there to seek the opinions of others. The field i work on is a waterdrive, shallow reservoir produced from some 400 sucker rod pumping units. The Pump Off Control (POC) system is what we use to optimise production and increase the mean time of failure between workovers.
I am looking to seek on advice on the next level of production control, more comnenly termed Variable Frequency Drive.
To my understanding VFD is very expensive to setup, especially in our case where power is 1000v AC. Has anyone had experience with other technologies that in theory achieve the same result (vary the pumping speed to maintain a minimum BHP and maximise inflow)? For example magnetic couplings.

Cheers
