SW 2006 save as to pdf... pdf's created with really werid fonts.

When I "save as" pdf in SW 2006 sp 4.0 it generates the pdf files fine;  but when I open the pdf files all the text on the drawings has change to some really werid font which is unreadable.  Any ideas ?

RE: SW 2006 save as to pdf... pdf's created with really werid fonts.

When you select the option to save as PDF format, click the Options button in the lower right of the dialogue box.  Click the Embed Fonts box and see what happens as a result.

Tried that.... believe it or not that actually made the text even more messed up.  Thanks for the thought though...

Anyone else with any ideas ? This is really causing grief, one solidworks station creates the pdf's fine, while the station beside it which is exactly thte same creates pdfs with messed up text....

Are all your fonts (on your computer) installed in the same directory?  Do you have any other print drivers installed or possible conflicting PDF-authoring software installed?

You may consider posting an example of the garbled text in JPEG or PDF format so we can see it for reference--may lend some cues (check FAQs regarding file/image posting).

Make sure the font is a ttf font if not then that could be it.

RE: SW 2006 save as to pdf... pdf's created with really werid fonts.

Go and get the SolidWorks fonts from the machine that is working and add them to your Window/Fonts folder. On my computer with SW06 sp4.1 there are 31 SolidWorks fonts.  The fonts start with SW.

You will need to delete the SolidWorks font from your machine first before you will be able to add them back from the other computer.

We have had this issue ever since SolidWorks went to Adobe Acrobat for the Save As PDF option. Not all the pdf's we created since SolidWorks switched to Adobe Acrobat where created with embedded fonts. There was a couple service pack lag before SolidWorks added the embed font switch.

I have a folder out on the network with the good fonts (older vintage that work) so our IT people can add the fonts to our users systems. On my machine when I apply a service pack I need to re-apply the older SolidWorks fonts I have saved.

RE: SW 2006 save as to pdf... pdf's created with really werid fonts.

Or you could just download the free PDF writer from http://www.pdf995.com/download.html and save all the grief?

RE: SW 2006 save as to pdf... pdf's created with really werid fonts.

Anna,   Do you mean to take the fonts from the /solidworks/data/adobe/resource/fonts folder from the working machine and place them on the machine which does not work ?  Or are you refering to the fonts in the windows directory?

Simon, I actually have adobe pdf writer software but I was having trouble when using distiller to print a large batch of drawings to pdf.  I have been unable to make the adobe software send the large batch of files to pdf without prompting me to name and place each file, if I ask it not to prompt me then it names each file "sheet1" instead of the file name and places all on my desktop.  If you have any ideas on that, that would be great as well.

RE: SW 2006 save as to pdf... pdf's created with really werid fonts.

If this helps, SolidWorks fonts generally start with the letters "SW" with the rest of the font name following (easy way to identify them).

Jamaz17,

No, I am talking about the system fonts in Windows/Fonts folder.  They start with an SW.

Make sure who ever is opening up the file has the same font on their box.
