"Custom Property", perhaps?

From SW Help:

Quote:

To designate any component as a fastener, open the component and click File, Properties. In the dialog box on the Custom tab, select IsFastener in Property Name, and type 1 for Value / Text Expression.

So now that I read-up on it... it only works with cutting sections & interference detection. So not what I remembered & no help for what I thought I was going to use it for.

But HEY!  I learned me something today!

Thanks Y'all...

Hello Jack,

Yes you can do an “Advanced Show/Hide” for any custom property.  There is a SolidWorks property for your parts called “IsFastener”.  You can set this to “yes” or “1” if it is a fastener to easily select all of them with the “Advanced Show/Hide” command.  The “Advanced Show/Hide is a available in your assembly by right clicking over the configuration name in the configuration tab.

 BINGO!

...giving due credit.

There is also this document property app that SW provides to you. If you want to do multiple files.

C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities\sldsetdocprop.exe

Run that and set the Property to "Yes", click "Update status" and you can get the result with "Show Seleceted property"

RE: DOCUMENT PROPERTY that will identify my specific part as a fastener

The section scope "exclude fasteners" only works if the
component isfastener prop is set to "1" as opposed to "yes".
Correct me if I'm wrong.....still learning here as well....

RE: DOCUMENT PROPERTY that will identify my specific part as a fastener

The above app is suppose to set all that for you... try it out and see.

"File not found" on this install of swx05 w/o toolbox.

RE: DOCUMENT PROPERTY that will identify my specific part as a fastener

I have both SW06 and 05 installed and it works for both of mine... not sure why yours doesn't... you could reinstall TB.

You don't find in it in the path I gave you above? If you don't then you didn't install SW05 with TB right.
