SKETCH OVERDEFINE

SKETCH OVERDEFINE

SKETCH OVERDEFINE

(OP)
Hi Everyone,
I have experienced this particular problem a few times, and this time, I can't figure it out.  I am doing a simple sketch (a few tangent arcs forming one cutout) and I just want to create a circular pattern. Every time I put a dimension, or a relation on the patterned sketch (which is un-defined) it says it is overdefined.  When I delete the relation, I can move the sketch all over the place.  I know I can pattern it in a feature, but I want to do it in a sketch.  Also when I mirror the sketch, it is over defined.  Thanks for your help
Brandon

RE: SKETCH OVERDEFINE

Can you post your file? See How Do I Make Files Available For Download? ... No Emails Required  FAQ559-1177

RE: SKETCH OVERDEFINE

Delte some other relationships and add the one you want and work backwards. Without having the file its hard to say... This the time you need to call your VAR.

RE: SKETCH OVERDEFINE

I agree with SBaugh, it sounds like you have some automatic relationships and the features you are trying to dimension are already defined by the relationships.  What you need to be dimensioning is one of the features to the origin.  That should lock your sketch into a permanent position.

The only automatic relations that were added were "symmetric" relationships when I mirrored the sketch.  When I mirror the sketch, then delete the mirrored geometry, the sketch is still over-defined, even though it was not before the geometry was mirrored.  Is there any way around this...basically I am dead in the water for this part and I need to get designing ASAP.  I will let you know what the VAR says.
Thanks

RE: SKETCH OVERDEFINE

Have you tried the the element you want patterned as a feature?

I don't know if this will work for you or not, but I have a lot more luck with feature patterns than sketch patterns and it might get you moving.

RE: SKETCH OVERDEFINE

Remove the Symmetric relationships and start over that might be the problem, or you are trying to dimension to the both sides and there is already symmetric relationship that is keeping you from it... the best thing to do is try and see if it works or not... if it doesn't work then you can close the file without saving.
