Bentax USA ionization air purifiers.

Bentax USA ionization air purifiers.

Hello all,

I am an electrical engineers working with our HVAC/R guys on a major airport terminal renovation.  I just attended a meeting at which, (as part of a VE excercise), the Mechanical Contractor is proposing the use of Bentax ionization units in the supply air plenums of the air handlers.  The airport is concerned about an existing problem they have with aircraft idleing at the gates and jet fuel fumes which enter the concourse via the outside air intakes of the air handlers.

We are replacing fans, filter sections and some ductwork, and introducing an ionization air purification system to attempt to eliminate odors and noxious fumes from the terminal.  The problem is our HVAC/R guys have not worked with this particular manufacturer.  The systems are smaller and use many fewer ionization tubes in the airstream than the specified units.  We are told by the manufacturer, of course, that due to their super secret, patented technology invented by Albert Einstein and his partner Conrad Habicht, they will perform at or above the specified levels.

I just thought that since I get such good information from my electrical counterparts at Eng-tips, that I would ask to see if one of you have any information as to performance, maintenance issues, reliability, etc....

Any insights would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

RE: Bentax USA ionization air purifiers.

There is nothing new about air ionization technique nor it is super secret. Technological secrets existed about 12 years back when I took up my first job and now you will get information before you ask.

I recommend you to go through this link and sublinks in the article.

Good luck,

Thank you Quark,

I did not mean to imply that there was in fact anything mysterious about the technique or it's effectiveness.  Our HVAC/R guys are well versed in the process.  My only question was as to this particular manufacturer's product, performance, reliability and history.

Regards

Hello

Please do not conclude that corona based ionization is the same as needle point ionzation.

Needle based ionization is mostly about electron emitters and some positive where static must be held in balance or particles must be charged.

Corona based ionzation actually has a chemical reaction to it.

Bentax, originally manufactured in Switzerland, and now owned by Ionic Productions in Switzerland, is corona based.

Air speed and quantity in, ion device output and exhaust directly relates to effectiveness in controling the break down and, therefore, the odor of hydrocarbons.

Output of 600,000 ions negative per a cubic centimeter or more is not to be treated in the same manor.

If their attitude is embodied in "their super secret, patented technology," then I would go pick someone else.  After all, that's what NDAs are for.  Someone who is less than forthcoming will be difficult to work with

Hello

Please go to the US patent office when looking for patent reference information.

The original Bentax patent on its tube has expired. This confirms an entry at 20 years in this country.

The trademark history is available at the US trademark office.

The business presence in North American was initiated about 10 years ago by Bernard Mirowsky at Bentax of North America with the first distributorship agreement between then Bentax Industrial AG and Wild & Co. (a Swiss/US interface).

Bentax started with Habicht, after working with his friend Einstein, base on a tube design from Siemens.

I am a co-owner of two patents concerning this form of ionization.  The only secrets any one has
on technology is the one they teach themselves.

Free "training" is not keeping a secret, it's not letting me specialize and charge for the time I spent learning what I know.

Hello EEJamie, could you help me with some basics on airport HVAC information?

Such as approximately speaking, how to calculate the number of air handlers in the airport/terminal? By square foot? If so, what is the standard formula, if there is any?

Right now, I am working with some air filter project and the product is supposed to be installed inside the duct, or air handler.

Thank you very much for your time, and any tip and suggestion is deeply appreciated.

Warmly
