CUTTING 4340 E4

CUTTING 4340 E4

CUTTING 4340 E4

(OP)
I have recently started a machine shop and have a job cutting 4340 its condition is E4.forgive me but I gave up machining for the last six years.Im back but forgot lots.Where do I go to find out what condition this is.Specifically how hard is it.Sure would hate to burn up inserts and cutters, while figuring out what sfm and chipload works best.I am cutting 100 parts (clip).the stock is 1.5*1.5*4. and will be hogged out to two .19 walls at 90degrees to each other. Also the cutter being used for hog out is a 1.5 iscar HeliDo.3 flts.It can handle up to .375 D.O.C.So how fast, how big of radial cut, and how deep can we go.Im holding on to .2 in hard jaws for the hog out. Machine is 30 hp, 40 taper.Any advice on cutter choices and speeds and feeds will be greatly appreciated. job starts monday.
