Fan blades brazing

Fan blades brazing

Fan blades brazing

(OP)
I have some stainless ID fan blades at a power plant.

We are considering having Conforma-Clad or a similar company braze tungston carbide onto the leading edge.  To perform this process they bake the part at around 2000 degrees F.  This is a twisted and tapered blade and the profile is critical.

Should I be concerned with this process?

Previously we used a spray process to deposit chrome carbide and it worked reasonably well.

Any thoughts?

RE: Fan blades brazing

I would stay with HVOF spray coating.  Heating the entire blade will change its properties and shape.  You may get unpleasant results.

RE: Fan blades brazing

I'll second EdStainless - we braze around 1500 F and metal movement is always a concern even at these lower temperatures.
