BS 7671 Wiring Regs - Swimming Pools (UK)
(OP)
Dear All
I would like to install some light fittings in zone B of a swimming pool installation. They are however, IPX3.
In Reg. 602-05-01 Degree of protection of enclosures, zone B enclosures should be IPX4 minumum. But am I right in thinking that as long as my luminaires (not enclosures) are SELV as per 602-04-01, I'll be complying with the regs.??
Any help gratefully received.....

RE: BS 7671 Wiring Regs - Swimming Pools (UK)
I believe these are two separate requirements of the regulations. IP ratings are for ingress protection whereas SELV is the method required for protection against electric shock, therefore you must comply with both. Also the degree of protection required (IPX4) protects against water splashing from any direction. IPX3, however, only protects against water at 60 degrees on either side of the vertical. It is clear from the zone B diagram that it would be easy for water to make contact with the luminaire at any angle hence the IPX4 requirement.
Probably not what you wanted to hear - sorry!
