Flash Distillation / Equilibrium Flash Calculation

Flash Distillation / Equilibrium Flash Calculation

Flash Distillation / Equilibrium Flash Calculation

(OP)
Afternoon All,

I'm currently carrying out a flash calculation for a hydrocarbon feed containing low levels of hydrogen and carbon dioxide (< 1 mol%).

I can't find K values for these components - which isn't surprising. Since they are at such low levels, I'm guessing that I can neglect them from the flash calc.

Does this sound reasonable?

Cheers,

Jake.

RE: Flash Distillation / Equilibrium Flash Calculation

CO2 has a k-value between methane and ethane. That small amount(less than1 mol%) of CO2 would only have a small effect.

A small amount of H2 on the other hand can have a big effect. H2 has a high K-value.

RE: Flash Distillation / Equilibrium Flash Calculation

Do not neglect H2.  Treat if as if all the H2 goes to the vapor phase. Or, if you prefer use an artificially very high K value for H2.
