Projection area_2

I have to project the part and measure his projected area, doesn’t have to be associative...

I have read thread560-109791, but this method is fine if you have simple part, in my case the part is very complex and selecting each surface would be time consuming.

Is there a faster way?

I also tried to do it in Drafting, but I have to export in DWG and clean the file in AutoCad, As I don't have AutoCad license at work, must be done in Catia V5.

RE: Projection area_2

1.Create a view in drafting
2.Use "Duplicate Geometry"
3.Use "Auto Search" to select your 2D profile
4.Copy 2D profile into sketcher

Once you have your profile defined use "FILL" command in GSD and measure the area.

Hi 5050t,

Please can you give me more details about steps 2 and 3.

1. Crated front view... OK
2. If I understand well, I have to duplicate only the part contour and inside holes, or the whole geometry ( how do I hide the generated items and leave visible duplicated geometry? )
3. I don't understand how this command works?
4. No questions... OK

RE: Projection area_2

2. Duplicate the whole geometry.  Then search (CTRL + F) for "Curve" and move the selected elements.  Hide the stuff you don't need.

3. Select one entity that defines the contour and use "Auto Search" via RMB click (XXX.object - Auto Search).  This function will select the part contour.  If the contour intersects other geometry, Auto Search will not work.  If that's the case you will need to select the profile manually then copy it into sketcher and generate FILL surface.  Then copy holes and use Split.

NOTES:
1. Auto Search is also available in Sketcher.
2. In Drafting "Auto Search" only works if you have duplicated geometry or sketched entities.
3. RMB – Right Mouse Button
