HI,
I am looking at a white noise maker and dont know anything about them. It says it will block surveilliance for microwave and uhf I think. Can anybody help me make a decision on this item? Dont want to wast my time if it isnt going to work.
thanks
here's it link

RE: white noise

Not to mention that an unlicensed transmitter large enough to interfere with other transmitters is illegal and will get you arrested.

RE: white noise

If it is the SoundScreen you are refering to, then you are safe from the FCC. It only outputs acoustic energy.

That also implies that it does not influence uhf and microwaves. Putting the question is yet another proof of how low the quality of engineering schools are nowadays. You did attend an engineering school, didn't you?

I didnt go for mechanical engineering just chemistry and biology. A bit lost in this field but had the physics stuff.
Anyhow, if I understand you correctly this would NOT be of any value in blocking my conversations from microwave or uhs surveilliance??

RE: white noise

You have to understand the difference between acoustic and RF. Your handle says cancane1(Electrical) so it is natural to assume that you understand electricity. I think that you should change (Electrical) to something else. Or you will get the type of answers you got from me.

Quote from the home page: "SoundScreen creates the consistent, smooth, pure white noise sound of rushing air"

That means that it makes it difficult to hear what the conversation is about. Be it a human ear or a microphone. If transmission from the microphone is by wire or radio or microwave isn't anything the SoundScreen can stop. It is purely acoustical.

HI,
ok, I didnt realize that is what the electrical was for, I thought it was the forum I was going into.
Anyhow, thanks. I think I understand. This little device should help keep my conversations in my office from being heard by eves droppers using the big UHF ear and microwave receivers if its just me conversing then correct?

RE: white noise

Just recently, Congress enacted a law that mandates all new electronic communication devices must allow government agents free access to monitor the communication. Any attempt to interfere with it or to block government agents from monitoring your communication will put you in jail!

RE: white noise

if you have conversations that you don't want others to hear, then don't have them where others can hear, or don't have them at all.

RE: white noise

Tony Soprano brings his buddies into the basement under the HVAC duct to talk business with the belief that it foils some kinds of surveilance.  One of the (TV)  FBI guys confirmed that tactic indeed gave them trouble, so they had to covertly install a listening device in a lamp on a workbench close by.

I'm connvinced

RE: white noise

HI,
Not worried about the FBI. Just wanted to stop nebby neighbors from  evesdroppong because it has be come quite a thing last few years in my part of the US.  I wanted to entertain and have business conversations at home in a comfortable atomosphere in privacy if possible.

RE: white noise

You need to be more specific about what particular mechanisms of eavesdropping you are trying to prevent and the particular environment you are trying to protect.

You can always do your discussions in the bathroom with the shower on.

RE: white noise

Yes, that would be to entertain. That's for sure...

Ha ha.. Well I didnt want it to be that INFORMAL...
Just things like I mentioned; the UHF parabolic ear and mabye a more professional private eye type microwave detection.

RE: white noise

There are audio jammers /sound masking devices out there if you surf. Intelligence summed with noise becomes noise at thr right signal to noise ratio.

They prevents people from bouncing lasers off your windows to detect conversations in a room.

There's apparently all sorts of variations.

RE: white noise

They can bounce a laser beam off a window and listen to you. It doesn't have to be RF.  I have a couple ATLAS Soundolier Masker boxes. Trouble with noise masking devices is people just talk louder with them.

RE: white noise

Note that both eavesdropper and your audience have the same signal to noise ratio with acoustic noise.
