Problems with transfer press

Problems with transfer press

(OP)
At work we have a aida tranfer press. We are coming across two problems with it.
First is that the parts sometimes stick to the stripper plates b/c of the oil on the parts and it creates a suction to the stripper plate and the part shifts a little bit.
Second question is just an open question about how we can possibly compinsate for material variation when forming sheet metal on stamping press?
Any insight would be great
Thanks

Try McMaster-Carr page #2453 ball nose spring plungers. If you install these in your strippers they break the oil seal on the material and prevent sticking.

RE: Problems with transfer press

As well as the ball nose plungers recommended by jbel you can get long series plungers from many manufacturers which give a longer stroke, not only useful for breaking an “oil seal” but also for stripping from pilots. You can also consider using a shouldered pin with a spring behind it backed up with a plate or grub screw.

If you require greater force many gas (nitro) spring manufacturers make a similar product, Dadco being just one example, do a google search.

RE: Problems with transfer press

Also, a piece of urethane rod can be used to strip the oil locked sheet from the plate.  You can use a set-screw from the side to hold it in.  Make it stick out of the plate just like you would the ball plungers mentioned above.

Sheet variation, as in too thick and causing the press to experience a high load can be solved by modifying the press to only allow a force you specify.  Also works if sheet is too thin and doesn't form correctly.

The tooling can also be re-designed to have give.  I have worked with this and there are many variables that determine if it will work for a given application.  There is more than one way to accomplish this as well.
