Automation error?

Automation error?

Automation error?

(OP)
I’ve just noticed a problem with SolidWorks Explorer. I don’t use SolidWorks Explorer frequently so I can’t say for sure when this started but I noticed it yesterday. The last time I used it, about two weeks ago, it worked fine.

Anyway, when I (try to) start SolidWorks Explorer, from both inside SolidWorks and stand alone, I get a message window that has “Solidmgr” in the blue bar across the top and the message:

  “Automation error
The specified module could not be found”

in the box along with an OK button. When I push the OK button, SolidWorks Explorer appears to start normally but when I try to open a file I get another message window and SolidWorks Explorer crashes. This message window also has “Solidmgr” in the blue bar and contains the message:

  “Run-time errer “424”-
   Object required”

when I push the OK button the message window closes and leaves behind a garbled SolidWorks Explorer window. When I close that I sometimes get another error message, but not always.

I have tried the following:

Install current SW version, 2006 4.1
Download and install SolidWorks Explorer as stand-alone from SW download page
Compare the Solidmgr file to that on another machine that works normally
Do a “Windows Restore” back to a time when it all worked normally

None of these have produced any positive results. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,
Al

Thanks Cor,

The solution in the link you supplied didn't work exactly as described but when I used regsvr32.exe to register Solidmgr.ocx (which I first had to copy to the Windows System32 folder)it did work and my trouble has been resolved.

Thanks for your help!
