HydroCAD and using weirs

HydroCAD and using weirs

HydroCAD and using weirs

(OP)
I am using HydroCAD and trying to use a box-like structure with 3 weirs, with an outlet pipe outletting the structure.

So far, the only structure that affects my flow is the outlet pipe. In other words, changing the weir elevation has no affect on anything - as if the only outlet that "sees" any water is the pipe.

Any HydroCAD users out there?

RE: HydroCAD and using weirs

You have to route the weirs into the pipes/culverts.  If you have them both routed as Primary, only the culverts will see flow, unless headwater backs up at the inlet of the culverts to the ht of the weirs...in other words, the software thinks the culverts are beside the weirs, not downstream.

If this doesn't do it, post here:

I managed to get it working.  Culvert became Primary, weirs had to be Devices.

Thanks for help.

RE: HydroCAD and using weirs

This key to this problem is having a clear understanding of the device ROUTING, and how it relates to the device NUMBER.  For example, your outlet setup might be:

Device#1 = Culvert, Routing=Primary
Device#2 = Weir A, Routing=Device#1
Device#3 = Weir B, Routing=Device#1

The routing indicates where the discharge from each device will flow, with the Primary routing contributing directly to the pond's primary outfow.  For an illustrated example please see www.hydrocad.net/pond1.htm
