using catia v4 part to cut nc block in v5

using catia v4 part to cut nc block in v5

I'm in an assembly trying to cut a part using a surface created in v4. I hit the split icon tells me to pick plane, face or surface (my pointer converts to an arrow w/ what looks like a surface next to it, when I pass over certain objects, at this point). I click on the surface I wish to use to split with, get the hourglass for a sec. then pointer turns to "do not enter" symbol. (closest approx.) get the same message to select plane, face or surface yet cannot pick anything. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have your options set to only link to published elements?  Tools --> Options --> Infrastructure --> Part Infrastructure.

Yes.  I do.

RE: using catia v4 part to cut nc block in v5

Is the surface converted into V5?  You cannot split solids using V4 geometry assembled directly into a V5 product.

Thnx 5050t! That was it. I was using a V4 part, not converted. Once I converted it, NO PROBLEMS!
Appreciate the help!
