Line format issue with Drawings

Line format issue with Drawings

Line format issue with Drawings

(OP)
In the drawing view of Solidworks, when I try to create a circle construction or reference line in the drawing (50:1 scale), it shows it in the print preview or when it prints like an octagon rather than a circle.  Similar to what standards part lines would look like if I had the image quality on lower resolution.  I have all of the image quality lines on high and the performance detail on high resolution.  But the lines still come out poorly.  Is there any way to get these lines to smooth out?

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Are your drawings set to Draft Quality?
Tools > Options > System Options > Display Style > Display quality for new views

Or is the printer set to print in Draft Quality?

cheers

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

I am having the same problem, only recently. I have all my settings to high quality, and they print preview faceted and print faceted, but on the screen they look this way as well unless I hover my mouse around the circles, then they smooth out -until I print print preview again.

What else could it be since all my printer and swx settings are high.

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Video card driver and or printer driver maybe.

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Nothing's changed other than the solidworks service pack.  Did that do something to the settings that I missed and it took a few days to become a problem? Unless I save as a PDF and print that way, this is getting to be a serious problem with my printouts. IT checked my system and can't find anything wrong with the video card. Could it be anything else?

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

What card & driver are you using?

Your IT people may have found that the card is working OK, but it may not be a suitable card for running SW.

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Nvidia quadro fx 1000

this is, supposedly, what solidworks listed as a recommended video card. 4.30.60.20.05

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Could not figure out how to edit.

We downloaded & installed the latest driver from nvidia and I maximized everything and set it to SOLIDWORKS. Restarted, and everything looks good in solidworks until I print preview. From that point, I get faceted circles which then print faceted. I've tried this on two printers, adjusting the printer settings to high quality as well. Once I go back to the slddrw, I still get the faceted circles until I rebuild (sometimes this works) or hover my mouse around the area and then it refreshes and looks correct.

I maximized the image quality in the tools / options / display settings in solidworks as well.

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

The latest driver from nVidia isn't necessarily the best driver to use.

Assuming you are using XP, then for SW05, SW06 or SW07, driver 6.14.10.7756 should be good.

If not check http://solidworks.com/pages/services/videocardtesting.html

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Sadly, I'm stuck with windows 2000

I will check that link, thanks

RE: Line format issue with Drawings

Tried that, it failed as well. IT still insists this system is fine despite showing them the problem and staring at the hourglass turn and turn for a 20 part assembly. *AAARRRGHHH* Whatever diagnostics or mouseclicks they perform to determine this, I think it's hard to get them to grasp solidworks requirements.

The power users finally got the ok to get new machines and solidworks 2007, so, for now, I'll have to deal with the facets and hope it doesn't cause issue for our shop guys.

Thanks for the suggestions all.
