(OP)
what design considerations should be considered during pig trap system design?

RE: pig system design

Abiodun,

David Simpson, a frequent poster on this forum, has a good doc describing pig launcher design requirements on his company website, here

http://www.muleshoe-eng.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/GatheringRulesOfThumb.pdf

also a diagram of a compressor station pig bypass, here

http://www.muleshoe-eng.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/PiggableBypass.pdf

I notice that there doesn't appear to be any sketch of a typical pig launcher or pig receiver on any of those, so I will try to put up such a sketch on my virtualpipeline webspace page today (click on link that follows), along with a doc that describes the requirements for designing pipelines for passage of intelligent pigs.  Look for those a bit later on today.

RE: pig system design

The August 2006 edition of the IChemE Loss Prevention Bulletin has a good article describing three pigging incidents and the corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

RE: pig system design

The LPB article referenced by cawse001 is a very good place to check, particularly for the design of proper depressurisation locations.
