square helix?

square helix?

square helix?

(OP)
Which way would be best to achieve a square helix, is there a simple tool?
Thanks

RE: square helix?

I don't think there is any particular "simple tool".  However, the geometry for a square helix (if I understand correctly what you're trying to do) is much simpler than a round one.  You can:

1. Create your square tube
2. Create one full helix revolution by making one cut on each side
3. Linear pattern along one edge of the tube.

The only tricky thing will be figuring out what happens at the corners.  This would be dependent on how you intend to create the physical part.

Sorry I may have not been as clear as i should, CSA will be a tube/circle put a rectangular helix shape.

RE: square helix?

Then make a helix with a circle like it shows in the help and then make a Square profile and sweep them together.

RE: square helix?

James,

I found this tutorial on making a Square spring awhile ago on a SW community newsletter. This may help you for what you are trying to do. The guy who wrote this tutorial is named Rishi Kumar Patel. Let me know if this helps or not.

Pick it up here: http://www.mooload.com/new/file.php?file=files/190706/1153321908/Square+Spring+Feature+in+SW.pdf
