Autocad drawing borders with polylines

Autocad drawing borders with polylines

Autocad drawing borders with polylines

(OP)
Dear Folks;

I would like to import my customers Autocad drawing border and save it as a Solidworks drawing template. The drawing imports everything fine except for the border lines themselves. These are polylines and when you import them the width changes dramatically. I can find no way to edit the width back to normal from within solidworks. I dont relly want to mess with the customers border within autocad to replace the polylines unless I absolutely have to.

Does any one have any suggestions ?

RE: Autocad drawing borders with polylines

Save yourself a copy of the AutoCAD drawing, and then you can mess with the line display as much as you want to without screwing up the original.  Try to adjust the linewidth display within AutoCAD before you import it into SW.

Hope that helps.

RE: Autocad drawing borders with polylines

I don't believe SW recognises ACAD polylines, so you may have to use ACAD or DWGEditor to "explode" the polyline before importing.

RE: Autocad drawing borders with polylines

Yes, you need to explode everything before doing save as in ACAD or DWGEditor. Then import into SW.

RE: Autocad drawing borders with polylines

We came from an AutoCAD template when we started SolidWorks 98. I started by coping the AutoCAD template. It was more trouble than it was worth. I ended up creating our templates from scratch. I found it less trouble to change things in the template.

RE: Autocad drawing borders with polylines

Is the title block in model space or paper space?  I have the title block in model space, then bring it to paper space as a block on ACAD drawings.  I am having no problems with polylines in SW because SW is recognizing and keeping the various line widths of the title block.

File > Open (dwg option), the import wizard pops up.
Create new SW Drawing
--Convert to SW entities.
Next
I choose Model, not layout

If the width isn't correct, use the "Line Thickness" tool on the "Line Format" toolbar to thicken or thin the width.

You may have to clean it up a bit, such as center it on your sheet.  Finally, save as template and sheet format in SW for future re-use.
