split faces, connectors, and meshing

split faces, connectors, and meshing

split faces, connectors, and meshing

(OP)
Hello,

I have a part which is essentially a block that is bolted to a plate. Four bolts attach the block to the plate, and are fastened using nuts.

When I first ran the program, I was able to get results however all four bolts were listed as one "connector". I then went into solid works, split the face on the block, and re-entered the connectors so each was listed as a different connector.

Now the program will not run as it replies with an error message of "PCG iterative solver stopped, status code 6:insufficient memory"

I have coarsened up the mesh with no luck on getting it to run - does splitting the face have that big of an affect on meshing?

Thanks!

RE: split faces, connectors, and meshing

Hi,
I'd rather think that you have a topological problem.
I didn't see clearly the reason why you needed to split the face in order to have the 4 connectors recognized independently: I was used to create two concentric holes, one in each component, and then selecting the two made a single bolt connector: doesn't this work for you?

Regards

Did you remember to re-mesh and re-assign after you went back to split the faes?
